Simple and Safe Halloween Party Ideas for Preschoolers

When you think about Halloween, you may think about older kids and teens dressing up and going trick or treating or to holiday parties with their friends. However, there are many Halloween activities that preschoolers can enjoy which makes it a fun holiday for them as well. Halloween activities for kids don’t need to be scary; they should add fun, not fright to your Halloween celebrations.

Halloween Party

If you want to throw a kid-friendly Halloween party, use these tips to make sure it’s safe and fun for every child involved.

1. Keep the Party Short and Sweet

Preschool-aged children don’t have the longest attention spans. They also tend to tire out very quickly. For young children, the party should only be an hour or two.

2. Go for Structured Activities for Kids

Unlike some older children, preschoolers may not form groups, talk and play amongst themselves quite so readily. Plan activities and make sure the kids at the party have something to do the whole time so that they don’t get bored.

3. Arrange Simple Halloween Activities for Kids

Halloween activities that you plan for preschoolers should only have a few simple and easy to follow instructions. That way, they won’t get frustrated or bored with the activities and the party. You can organize simple games such as “The Halloween Memory Game,” "Who's the Ghost?" and "Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin.

4. Avoid Troublesome Activities

Halloween activities like carving pumpkins or making candy with liquid chocolate could be problematic. It could be potentially dangerous for young kids. It might sound obvious, but even things like making paper lanterns with scissors can be problematic for preschoolers. Plan your activities accordingly.

5. Don’t Go for Continuous Games and Activities

Take regular breaks from scheduled activities for things like short, quick games and snacks. The games you plan don’t have to be exclusively Halloween related, and you don’t have to fill kids up with Halloween candy. A simple game of Simon Says and healthy treats like carrots, which are orange for Halloween, are ideal.

Add more fun to your children’s Halloween party and have a howling good time with your little ghosts!
